Problem
Why do some Opportunities ask for unpublished songs, or state that Publishing rights will be required ?

Solution
Owning the Publishing rights to a song can be a very valuable asset. Therefore it is not too surprising that some companies will only use songs when they can simultaneously acquire the Publishing rights to it.

There is certainly nothing illegal or unethical about this, but it could be deemed inadvisable in certain circumstances. If in doubt, seek the advice of a Lawyer or Industry body (such as a Union or Songwriters Organization).
